On behalf of the leadership of the Greater Los Angeles Area Council, BSA (GLAAC) and Western Los Angeles County Council, BSA (WLACC), we have created this website to provide the most accurate information regarding Scouting.  Our goal is to help provide clear answers and resources to scouts, parents, and concerned citizens.  We are also sending important communications regarding recent articles concerning the potential bankruptcy filing of the National Council, BSA (National BSA) due to sexual abuse lawsuit claims.

First, our councils receive no funding from the national organization. We pay a relatively small national service fee to the National Council as part of our annual charter agreement. In return, we receive support from the National Council through the development of BSA literature and training.

Second, our GLAAC and WLACC councils are independent 501(c)(3) entities incorporated in the State of California. Our camps, service centers, investments, and bank accounts are owned or leased and operated by their respective councils.

Finally, all “Friends of Scouting” gifts, special-event gifts, and foundation grants contributed to the respective scouting councils stay local to support our youth programs.

Thank you for your support of the Greater Los Angeles Area Council and the Western Los Angeles County Council for your understanding of this sensitive matter.

The Facts

Technological advances have made it easier for people to connect with each other and to find information, including details about the major issues facing our families and avoiding misinformation. But those advances present both challenges and opportunities for individuals and organizations, like Scouting.
